In the 2022 midterms hulking slob John Fetterman narrowly defeated slimy TV doctor Mehmet Oz for a U.S. Senate seat in Pennsylvania. It was the only Senate seat to flip parties in the midterms.
Despite leading late in the polls, Oz lost by 5% which allowed Democrats to gain one seat and their first outright majority since 2015. With Fetterman’s victory, elected Democrats held both Senate seats in Pennsylvania for the first time since 1947.
Fetterman was a legend as mayor of poverty-stricken Pennsylvania town Braddock where he won the Democratic primary by one vote and then the general election in 2005. In the 2009 primary he faced Jayme Cox who accused him of abuse of power after Fetterman released non public records of Cox being arrested in 2004.
Nevertheless Fetterman defeated Cox in the primary that year by a margin of 294 votes to 103. He would go on to win the 2009, 2013 and 2017 primaries as well and was unopposed in in the general election during each of these years.
Fetterman, with financial help from his father, would found Braddock Redux, a program to remove blight from the town and being renovating and repurposing the many old and abandoned buildings in Braddock. He established relationships with non profits and was able to secure large grants to revitalize Braddock and attract people outside the state to move to his town.
Unfortunately the town’s population failed to increase as many of the homes were still uninhabitable. Although Fetterman was able to reduce gun crime significantly during his tenure by delegating his authority over law enforcement to the police chief in Braddock and acting as a mediator during disputes.
All in all Fetterman was the progressive dream candidate. Despite a privileged upbringing his was a story of a “blue collar” man who lived in church basements and shipping containers and overcame personal tragedy to help an ailing rust belt town get back on it’s feet.
His victory over Oprah acolyte Dr. Oz sent shockwaves through the Senate and was a black eye for Republicans that thought a red wave would wash over the midterms that year. Now Chapo Trap House is dunking on him, how did that happen?
A few weeks before the 2022 Democratic primary where he defeated Conor Lamb, Fetterman suffered a debilitating stroke that affected his speech pattern drastically. Here he’s seen praising fellow pudding brain Joe Biden for his initiative to repair I-95 last year. It’s painful to watch, or funny depending on your sense of humor.
Garbled words aside, leftists still cheered on Fetterman’s rise to the Senate. They’d even staunchly defend Fetterman from attacks from by his fellow Senators over his penchant for dressing like a dock worker at every event.
But there was a problem with their hoodie clad hero; it became apparent after the October 7th attacks in Israel that Fetterman was an unapologetic Zionist who would use his platform to condemn Hamas at every opportunity. The pro-Paestine crowd recoils every time Fetterman makes weepy statements about the plight of Israelis on Twitter.
When Fetterman opines on the state of the Gaza conflict, Republicans and Leftists unite to own him viciously and without compromise. There’s a newer tactic of exposing politicians ties of AIPAC and people are not shy about using it on the man they formerly built up as a working class hero. Look at a small sampling of replies to the above tweet.
Fetterman, with whatever brain function he has left, has also gone public about his feelings of discontentment with progressivism and has expressed these feelings to the progenitor of smug liberalism, Bill Maher. Of course leftists can’t conceive of anyone being honestly disenfranchised by their ideology and the only people who do are clearly right wingers who only acted like leftists to gaslight their audiences or constituencies.
To be fair Fetterman is no more conservative than your average leftist, he still supports minimum wage increases, bump stock bans, legalization of marijuana, and socialized medicine. The sticking point is Israel, our boy is very concerned about Hamas barbecuing babies and the cool and chill guys of online won’t let him live it down. Even going so far as to mock his mental health.
The aforementioned Fetterman shtick of wearing greasy hoodies at black tie events has also worn thin with this crowd.
I do find it funny that this crowd is mocking Fetterman’s elite education while many of them had similar upbringings with their wealthy parents financing their NYU degrees all so they can sit vaping in their apartments and living off Patreon donations to their podcasts. Also Carharrt isn’t really considered prole garb anymore since plenty of tech bros are wearing it as an aesthetic as they spend 3 hours a week coding at their remote job, all these people are LARPing.
Fetterman also got into a few car accidents during his Senate tenure, they involved travelling upwards of 20 miles over the speed limit and his aides have also expressed concern over his habit of texting while driving. Our favorite brocialists seized on this and spent a segment of their recent podcast digging into Fetterman’s lead foot. The Senator’s driving habits aren’t safe from the barbs of Chapo and neither is his bitch wife. You’d think the Chapo guys would be more understanding of Fetterman’s conditon, after all he and Matt Christman both have brains with the consistency of oatmeal.
Fetterman, love him or hate him, has done more for the working class than any of these podcast creatures could ever dream of. Fetterman stuck his neck out on the line for the proles and has a proven track record of using family wealth to deliver results to them like the privileged are expected to do. It’s for that reason I cut him slack even though I despise progressives. What have any of the irony podcasters done except foster a smug sense of self satisfaction from attacking the same conservative shibboleths over and over?
I used to vote GOP and I’m used to the people I put in power whining constantly about aggression against Israel and chomping at the bit to bomb Iran, it’s time leftists realize the people they vote for are the exact same as Marjorie Taylor Greene and Josh Hawley when it comes to America’s Greatest Ally.
To their credit a growing number of leftists are willing to be public about their critiques of Israel and Zionism when they’d be scared to in the past due to associations with antisemitism. But who cares about Jewish oppression from 80 years ago when Gazans are being oppressed by Jews today? If anything, Fettermans shabbos goy routine has caused a lot of them to think more critically about Israel’s grip on American foreign policy, and if it doesn’t then I don’t know what the fuck it’ll take.
