It’s been almost a year since 1200 Israeli partygoers were slaughtered by Hamas militants and as a result over 40,000 Palestians have been killed by airstrikes while nearly 100,000 have been injured. It’s the predominant issue on many young voters minds, so much so that many of them have taken to LARPing as Hezbollah at several large scale protests much to the chagrin of a subset of conservative muck rakers.
But attempts to make this a partisan issue haven’t seemed to work as many people on both the Left and the Right want the bloodshed in Gaza to stop. The question on everyones minds is “How?” which is pertinent considering that a growing number of Americans seem disenfranchised with the ability of liberal democracy to stop exacerbating foreign conflicts.
We all know Trump’s stance on the conflict, I don’t need to reiterate how he’s arguably the biggest Zionist on the planet. Kamala said as recently as August that Israel had a right to defend itself and was looking to continue the Biden policies of resupplying the Iron Dome. The quote from the NPR article reads:
"Let me be clear, I will always stand up for Israel's right to defend itself and I will always ensure Israel has the ability to defend itself," she said tonight. She said that Israelis should "never again" go through the horror and "unspeakable" attacks of Oct. 7.
But earlier this month she seems to have softened that stance and wants to now propose a two state solution while guaranteeing no Isreali resettlment. I’ve seen people I assumed were right wingers say that they’re planning on voting for Kamala because of this.
Are people really proposing living under an entrenched Gay Race Communist bureacracy for 4-8 years because Palestinians thousands of miles away are getting blown up? And what does it say about Trump that 4 more years of MAGA sounds so unappealing to his old voterbase that they’d happily vote against him even with the possibility of their lives being exponentially worse under Democrat rule? People are really leaning in hard to single-issue voting.
But will things actually be better for anyone under Trump, besides Jews that is? I’ve seen it argued that his close relationship with Netanyahu could mean he’d be able to strike a deal to reach a ceasefire more easily than Kamala would. But nothing I’ve seen from Trump or any of his most ardent supporters suggests to me that he gives a shit about Palestinians in any way, shape, or form.
Is it bad to not care about the conflict in Gaza? Or should I ask, why has it gotten to a point where this conflict could actually sway who wins the presidency in November? Foreign problems become domestic problems because we keep importing people from the areas that these fights are occcuring and oftentimes even appoint them to high positions in government. I’m forced to care about Gaza because an ever-growing ethnic voting bloc and diverse government demands I do and my vote against it means less and less every year that passes.
I don’t see the point of complaning however, every day foreigners all over the world are killed as the result of a US proxy war and there’s isn’t anything I can do about that either. If there was a true anti-zionist candidate, someone who actually didn’t hold back when it came to Israel but their other policies sucked, would I vote for them? Would you? Are we prepared to admit that the situation is unfixable for Whitey and our only hope is taking down Israel with us? And if so, what are the implications of that?
Is divestment from Israel going to fix the issues of White disenfranchisement like being frozen out of the job market or being overrun by third worlders? Maybe, maybe not, but American politics without AIPAC interfering could result in policies that put Americans first and at least undo some of the damage that has been largely ignored over decades. But are we willing to make it our primary issue? Some of us are prepared to because we’ve been fucked over so long that we’re incapable to envisioning a future where our needs are actually met and furthermore we’ve pretty much been living under a Democrat supermajority for the last 6 years anyway, so we might as well have a little fun.
